Sliglube (2024)

IntroductionSliglube (from Scottish Gaelic: slighe lùb, meaning "loop path") is a loop-stalemate game for two players: Black and White. It is played on the hexes (cells) of an initially empty hexagonal board. The recommended board size is 6 cells per side, but boards of 5 or 7 are also valid. Each player has access to a sufficient supply of stones in their own color.



Definitions:
A group is a maximal set of stones of any color connected to each other. A single stone is also a group.
A path is a subgroup of stones of any color within a group minimally connected by a line with a single stone's thickness along its entire length. A group may contain multiple paths as long as each of them are minimal paths.
A loop is a closed path that surrounds empty cells or stones of any color. You control a loop if at least half of its stones are your color.
To flip is to replace enemy stones with friendly stones.




Turns:Black plays first, and turns alternate. On your turn, perform these actions in the following order:


Place a stone of your color on an empty cell not adjacent to a friendly loop.
Flip enemy stones in loops you control, provided the new loop includes the placed stone. Then, remove all friendly stones adjacent to the new loop. You may also remove stones from friendly or enemy loops adjacent to it if doing so increases your loop's lenght by at least one stone.


At the end of your turn, the stone you placed must not be part of a loop controlled by your opponent. Flipping is optional if stones need to be removed from any loop.



End of the game:The game ends when a player cannot place stones, in which case that player is the winner.

To balance the game, before starting, the first player places a black stone on an empty point, and the second player chooses a side. This balancing method is called the pie rule.
