Sack Armies is a fantasy-based battle game for 2-6 players with strategic, operational, and tactical elements. It was released several years ago, but implemented many innovative mechanisms (at the time) and an well-designed elegant system.
It was marketed as a Collectible Token Game; however, the “collectability” aspect is almost completely mitigated by two factors: 1. A clever army construction mechanism and 2. The fact that there was only one big edition published. This game is NOT an example of whoever-spends-the-most-money on starters and boosters wins, but rather whoever is the better general wins. It is probably still worth noting that the game tokens come in Starter (aka Army) packs and Booster (aka Reinforcement) packs.
There are the usual suspects in any fantasy game (orcs, goblins, elves, magic, etc.); however, this game is not about questing and adventuring, but rather about the field of battle. The key to winning is strategic planning, achieving operational objectives, and tactical execution. A player wins by capturing all the opponent’s battlefields or eliminating all the opponent’s units.
