Sail Away is a competitive game for 2–4 players set in the pirate-infested waters of the Caribbean. Each player takes on the role of a merchant seeking to launch cargo ships by collecting resources from islands while navigating interference from rivals and pirates.
Players take turns placing Standard and Pirate Crates onto Island Cards and Pirate Action Cards. Standard Crates are used to claim resources, while Pirate Crates allow players to block, stack over opponents, or activate disruptive pirate abilities. When an island is filled, players move crates from the island to matching spaces on their ship cards.
Once a ship is fully loaded with resources, it is launched to score points and trigger a one-time launch ability. Coins are used to bend placement rules, pay off pirate interference, or unlock strategic options. Each player works toward a personal Secret Objective and competes for a shared Public Objective revealed at the start of the game.
The game ends when a player has launched five ships. The player with the most points from ships, objectives, and gold coins is declared the winner.
