Monstros & Tesouros (2021)

Monstros & Tesouros is a Brazilian, independent game, born from decades of fantasy RPG campaigns and the author’s desire to simplify the tabletop RPG experience just with cards and a pair of dice. In the “Adventure” mode, each player assembles a party of three unique, preconstructed heroes, each with a different set of abilities, from a pool of 35. Players take turns revealing Terrain cards (from a total of 65), which pit a different set of enemies against the heroes. During their turn, the player controls their heroes, while the monsters are controlled by another player, reducing downtime. In a two-player game, you will never be idle, as you’re either playing with your heroes or controlling the monsters against your opponent. The game features a total of 100 unique monsters to face. During combat, players use their action cards (from a pool of 100), which have stat prerequisites that correlate to the heroes/monster stats: hand management is a key aspect of the game. Dice, in combination with various stats, are used to determine the result of some actions and the winner of successive rounds. Once monsters are defeated, the heroes gain treasure (from a total of 100 unique treasure cards) and experience, becoming stronger and able to use more powerful action cards. The game continues until one player reaches a predefined goal. There are other gameplay modes, including “Arena” - a free-for-all single combat between two parties, “Bestial Arena” - where monsters face off against each other in quick combat, and solo play. The game is highly customizable with many optional rules and is open to house rules as well. One box contains 400 cards, a pair of dice and the rulebook. -description from designer
