Age of Change: Mining Operations is a lightweight, family-friendly board game that transports players to the early 20th century, where they take on the role of miners in search of valuable resources. Designed for 2-4 players, this game is easy to learn and provides around 30 minutes of engaging playtime, making it a great choice for family game nights.
Warning Age of Change: Mining Operations is a gateway game to introduce friends and families to the world of boardgames without scaring them with a massive rulebook. This game is more based on "push your luck" and learning some mechanics than deep strategic gameplay.
Objective:
The aim of the game is to collect the highest value of gold, silver, and coal by exploring mine shafts and strategically navigating through various challenges.
Components:
80 Mine Shaft Tiles: Create a unique mining landscape each game.
Cloth Draw Bag: Contains gold, silver, and coal counters.
Two 6-sided Dice: One with numbers, the other with colors and quake icons.
4 Player Pieces: Represent the miners.
1 Starting Tile: The entry point into the mine.
20 Gold, 30 Silver, and 50 Coal Counters: The resources players will be mining.
Setup:
Place the starting tile at the center of the play area.
Each player selects a playing piece and places it on the starting tile.
Prepare the draw bag with all the mineral counters inside.
Shuffle and place the mine shaft tiles face down in piles.
Gameplay:
Each turn, players roll two dice. One die determines the number of tiles they can move, while the other indicates where to place new minerals or triggers a mine collapse. Players explore the mine by placing new tiles, collecting valuable resources, and avoiding obstacles. Strategic decisions about movement and resource collection are key to winning the game.
Mineral Placement: Draw minerals from the bag and place them on tiles of the corresponding color rolled.
Mine Collapse: If a quake is rolled, a mine shaft collapses, adding a layer of challenge.
Movement: Move through the mine, adding new tiles and collecting resources along the way.
Collecting Minerals: After moving is done (or skipped if you so wish), collect minerals from the tile you end up on, according to the rules.
Scoring:
Coal: 1 point each
Silver: 5 points each
Gold: 10 points each
End of Game:
The game concludes when the draw-bag is empty, all mine shaft tiles are placed or no more tiles can be placed in the mine. Players tally their points based on the resources they've collected, and the player with the highest score wins.
