Schachdame is the oldest crossover between Chess and Checkers. The game is known since 1883 when its inventor, the German Chess player Heinrich Richter, published a small booklet (8 pages) about his game:

"Schachdame: eine neues Familienspiel, welches die Principien des Schachspiels mit der Leichtigkeit des Damenspiels vereinigt"

(Translation: "Chess-Checkers: a new family game, which combines the principles of the game of Chess with the lightness of the game of Draughts")

Rules:

The game is played on a chess board. Each player has eight pieces: six "Bauern" (Peasants), one "Ritter" (Knight) and one "Dame" (Lady).

Initial Set-up

White:
Dame e1; Ritter c1; Bauern a1, b2, d2, f2, g1, h2.

Black:
Dame d8, Ritter f8, Bauern a7, b8, c7, e7, g7, h8.

The Peasants move like Draughts men.

The Kinghts move like the Bishop in Chess.

The Lady moves like the King of American Straight Checker/English Draughts.

A Peasant is promoted to a Knight when it reaches the last file.

Capture is by replacement (as in Chess).

The object is to mate the opponent's Lady.
