LOOM: Portent of the Vale (2023)

'LOOM' is a print and play fantasy adventure game. Using a map and character sheet, alongside procedurally generated paragraphs, you will explore a dark and twisted world of fantastical horror. Weave your own story as you play, find rare items, uncover hidden secrets, and use your 'Command List' to interact with the world. With nothing more than playing cards, dice and a pencil, you will generate and play through a story of longing, of defeat, and of a broken world. Deadly foes await, cosmic gods scheme, and the Vale darkens...

At the start of each game, you create a character from a predefined series of options. On your turn, move across the map grid of the Vale by using a movement point. Generate a story paragraph by using a 52 deck of cards and two dice. The story paragraph will dictate which actions are available to you.

Will you fight an enemy or search a building? Assist an NPC with a quest or pray at a shrine? Search for Tracks or Forage for Items? All outcomes and recorded on your character sheet.

Once your movement points are used up, set up camp for the night and hope you get some good rest for the day ahead.

The game ends when you reach the northernmost sanctuary, or your character dies - Only through death however, will you unlock powerful items to aid you in future playthroughs.
Each ending is dictated by the state of the world and your character as influenced by your actions and outcomes.
