Goal Zone Board Game (2024)

Goal Zone Board Game is a soccer board game where players take turns rolling two standard white dice to control player and ball movements. The offensive player or attacker uses moves from throwing two white dice in order to dribble, pass, or move other attacking game pieces into strategically advantageous squares to prepare to receive a pass or to shoot on the goal. When the offensive player’s turn is over the defensive player rolls the two white dice and moves any of the defensive game pieces toward the attacker who has possession of the ball. The defensive player “closes down” on the ball by moving a defensive game piece into the attacker's square who has the ball. Next, the defender declares a “challenge” for possession and the two players use red dice to determine who wins the challenge for possession of the ball. Whichever player rolls a higher number on the red challenge die wins the challenge. The winner of the challenge then rolls the two white dice and moves away from the challenging defender by passing, dribbling or a combination of the two. If the two players roll a tie on the red challenge die, then the defender or challenging player gets a “yellow card” and possession goes to the offensive player in possession of the ball.

Shots on the goal can only be taken from the red goal zone squares. Each horizontal red goal zone square has a number from 1 to 6. This means that the offensive player shooting at the goal must have that many moves remaining on their dice if they want to shoot from the distance indicated on the board. For example, to shoot from the #6 line, the offensive player must have at least 6 moves left on their turn to be allowed to shoot at the goal. When the offensive player declares “I’m taking a shot on goal,” each player rolls a red challenge die. If the offensive player rolls a higher number, it’s a goal. If it is a tie or the defensive player (goalie) rolls a higher number, then the goalie takes possession.

To win the game the first player to score 1, 2 or 3 goals wins depending on how much time you have to play the game.
