The Basic Fighter Combat Manual was originally published as a stand-alone miniatures rules set, followed by the Advanced Fighter Combat rule book in 1978. Both books were required to play the Advanced rules.

Winner of the 1981 H.G. Wells award for all-time best air combat miniatures rules.
The Complete Fighter Combat System includes the following aircraft: Bf109, Me262, Bf110, Fw190, P-51, P-40, P-47, P-38, F4U Wildcat, Spitfire, Hurricane, Ki-43 Oscar, Ki-61 Tony, Zero, Macchi 2002, Yak 9, Val, Sturmovik, Stuka, Dauntless, B-17, B-24, B-25, B-29, He-111, Bristol Beaufort, G4M2 Betty, and Lancaster.
