Players must collect 4 cards of a set but this not a regular Quartett game.
Rules of the game
You need eight coins for this game. The game is played with 36 cards that are divided into nine families of four cards with the same theme. The four cards of the same family all have the same number (from I to 9).
The game can be played by three to nine players. Use as many groups of four cards as there are players. In other words, if there are 3 players then only 12 cards are used (for example, all the cards numbered 1,2 and 3); if there are four players then 16 cards are used and so on.
A randomly chosen player shuffles the cards and working clockwise deals out four cards to each player. As many of the coins as there are players minus one are placed in the middle of the table.
Each player tries to make families. They try to get 4 cards in their hand of the same family. Each player looks at their cards and decides which card to throw away. When the dealer says, ‘READY’ everyone places their chosen card in front of them, face down. When the dealer says ‘START’ each player gives their card to the player sitting to their left and receives a card from the player on their right. If no player has completed a family then the game continues. A player can throw away the same card they have received from their neighbour or swap it and throw away a different card. If a player receives a card that completes a family they shout, ‘STOP’ and at that moment everyone tries to grab a coin from the middle of the table. The player that’s too slow and doesn’t grab a coin, loses the game and all the others win.
