Battle for Normandy is a 2-player game that was included in the August 2020 issue of Gakken Historical Images Magazine.
The game Battle for Normandy recreates the famous "Normandy Landings" that began on June 6, 1944, a turning point on the Western Front of World War II, made famous by the movies "Saving Private Ryan" and "The Longest Day." Players take on
the role of the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces, which oversees the US and Commonwealth forces, and the commander of the 7th Army, which is responsible for the German defense of Normandy, and compete to determine the outcome of the decisive battle.
The game map depicts the Normandy coast and surrounding areas in northern France, and the first week there is recreated over a total of seven turns. The game is a typical hex-and-counter/CRT type with no step losses. It is suitable for beginners.
The magazine also includes the game Ste. Mere-Eglise--a solitaire game, also designed by Yamazaki. The map for it is on the opposite side of the Normandy map. Counters for both games are on the same sheet, and the rules for each game are found in the same rulebook.
