Tao Long: The Tiger and the Phoenix expansion replaces the earth dragon with a 3-tile tiger and a 1-tile phoenix. The phoenix starts off the board, so the earth / tiger-and-phoenix player starts with ¾ the length of the heaven dragon. The tiger is otherwise the same as the earth dragon, except that it can only expel water.
The phoenix functions like a single-tile dragon that can only repel fire, and whose damage removes fire stones.
The phoenix comes into play once the player's fire meter has at least 1 stone, by appearing adjacent to the tiger. If the player's fire meter becomes empty, the phoenix leaves the board again. As one might expect, each time the fire meter starts to fill, the phoenix rises again.
While the phoenix is on the board, the tiger-and-pheonix player gets to move both creatures, in any order.
